Job Description

Commercial Manager – Inverness/Elgin – Up to £90k DOE + Car Allowance + Package

First Task Professional is currently working alongside a national engineering contractor who is gearing up for an extremely busy few years, with multiple wins within big civil engineering projects in the energy / power sector.

As such, they have a requirement for Commercial Manager to work on projects in both the delivery stages and pre-construction.

Why join them? The contractor has a very prominent industry reputation and are known for being able to successfully deliver large scale civil engineering / infrastructure projects. They work in partnership with some of the best specialist contractors to ensure safety and quality are delivered to the highest standards. They also support their staff through chartership and various other CPD channels- so if you want to level up your career, this could be a great opportunity for you.

Naturally, most substations and converter stations are in more remote locations… so there is a high likelihood of having to work away (with hybrid working) for these jobs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects to ensure quality, timeliness, and cost-efficiency.
  • Collaborate on joint ventures, building strong relationships.
  • Lead contract negotiations for maximum profitability.
  • Mentor teams and enhance operational performance.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and multitasking abilities.
  • Supervise and guide the commercial team.
  • Manage commercial relationships with clients and subcontractors.
  • Oversee cost performance data and report preparation.
  • Ensure timely payment applications and provide contractual advice.
  • Handle financial aspects of insurance claims.
  • Manage team workload and time effectively.

Requirements:

  • Experienced Commercial Manager or advancing Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong commercial skills.
  • Familiar with NEC contracts.
  • Proven ability to mentor and collaborate with project teams.
  • Confident team player with a positive impact.
  • Relevant qualification (Degree, HNC/D).

John Gillen

Director/Recruiter at First Task Professional

"I’ve known John and David for many years. I’ve always found them trustworthy and reliable. They are my first choice when recruiting for vacancies within the business. I would recommend them new potential customers."

Commercial Director, National Building Contractor - Glasgow

John moved from Northern Ireland to Scotland to study at Heriot Watt in 2006, and we have unfortunately been stuck with him ever since! He has been involved in the Scottish Construction Recruitment sector since 2010, having worked for both FTSE listed and locally owned SME agencies before making the move to start First Task Professional with Ronnie Napier, who is the old friend from his university days. He has worked with Building & Civil Engineering Contractors, House Builders and specialist Subcontractors throughout Scotland and placed in excess of 350 staff during his time in recruitment from Site Engineers to Managing Directors, and everything in between. For the past 7 years, he has focussed primarily on placing top Commercial, Estimating and Planning talent across the Central Belt

John’s success has always been around keeping things simple and honest; a trait which has seeing clients and candidates alike use him on a repeat basis.
